Events of Note in the D.C. Area

The American Marketing Association - DC Chapter is holding a Mobile Marketing session on Thursday, September 4th - details are here. Half of the world's population owns at least one phone. Mobile advertising is an exploding marketplace, increasing by $1B in one year to $2.8B worldwide in 2008. In 2007, 1.9 trillion text messages where sent worldwide, leading to $52B in revenues. What does this have to do with you? Come find out! The session runs from 6-9PM, and participants include: Jeff Arbour, Vice President of Mobile Integration at The Hyperfactory: Brian Reich, Principal at EchoDitto; D.P. Venkatesh, Founder and CEO of mPortal; and Mary Gramaglia, Director of Sales at Sybase365. The whole thing is ably moderated by Cabalist Limor Schafman, President of the KeystoneTech Group. Check it out!

Our Potomac Tech Wire pals are at it again, this time with The Future of Software on Friday, September 5th. This event is part of the Potomac Tech Wire breakfast series that brings together senior executives in the Mid-Atlantic to discuss technology issues in a conversational, roundtable environment moderated by the editor of Potomac Tech Wire. Two star-studded panels will examine the major trends and issues facing the software sector, including Software-as-a-service, open source growth, business models, trends in enterprise software and venture capital. All details and registration information here, don't miss it!

Our good pals at The Advertising Club of Metropolitan Washington have been producing Advertising Week DC for a few years now, and the 2008 edition is looking hilariously impressive. The events will be held September 15-19 at locations all around the metropolitan area, and the speaker lineup includes Steve Forbes, Tim Ellis of Volkswagon, Hard Baller Chris Matthews, and Robert Wong, Executive Director of Google Creative Lab. Plenty of Interactive/New Media issues will get discussed, so check out the lineup. Also, we Cabalists can guarantee that the U.S. Premiere of the Cannes Advertising Festival winners, which is just one of the week's events - held Tuesday, September 16th - is an extremely cool way to spend an evening.

Flush with victory following two superlative events, Peter Corbett and pals are organizing yet another Twin Tech for September 18th, at a tragically hip urban hang-out to be named later. Yet again, the brightest minds in the tech/venture space, be they urban, suburban or open source, will be on hand to mix and mingle with one another during a happy hour style meet-up. An open bar will be sourced thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, which at this writing are too numberous to mention. A mere 400 people have already done the RSVP thing, yes 400, so jump onto this very fun bandwagon whilst you can.

Look out Maryland, here we come again! Due to popular demand, we're bringing our New Media Salon and "Dot Com" Networking reception back to Bethesda on September 23rd - 4th Tuesday! Cabalists come from all parts of our wonderful D.C. Metropolitan area, so we're trying to be commute-friendly to as many people as possible. The event is sponsored by the good people at Genius Rocket. All the details at the site - join us!
